“fantasy hats” are how Phillip Treacy refers to his creations. the Irish milliner (that’s “hat maker” to those who don’t know) is modest at the most; his work has adorned stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, and more. his spectacular works of art are a combination of whimsy, texture, ingenuity, glamour, and boldness that no one else can match. he graduated with honors from London’s Royal College of Art in 1990, and a chance encounter with Tatler fashion editor Isabella Blow introduced his works of art to the public eye. over the next decade, he would collaborate with Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Valentino, and many more icons of fashion and glamour, including Blow, who became his close friend and muse to many his designs. Phillip Treacy almost single-handedly brought fascinators and hats into our fashion consciousness today, inspiring a new way to accessorize and push the fashion envelope.

“People, when they buy a hat,

they can’t explain why they want to buy it

or why they want it, but they do.

It’s like chocolate.”
